Checking driving licenses is one of the central tasks in fleet management. What would otherwise involve a great deal of effort if carried out manually can be simplified considerably thanks to a digital solution. LapID is a pioneer in this area. To make things even easier for fleet managers, the LapID driving license check can now also be combined with our Fleet+ fleet software.

We spoke to Christoph Schlüpen, Team Lead Partner Management at LapID, about LapID’s solutions and the benefits of the partnership.

In a nutshell: What does LapID do?

As the inventor of the automated driver’s license check, we have made it our mission to digitize company processes and replace manual processes. This allows those responsible in the company to concentrate on other important matters. At the same time, they can meet their legal obligations arising from owner liability, accident prevention regulations or the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

What solutions and services does LapID offer its customers?

LapID offers three services that can be combined with each other. These include automated driver’s license checks, instructions in e-learning format and digital appointment and document management for UVV inspections.

Our customers can choose from three control methods for automated driving license checks. These can also be easily combined with each other and cover every driver’s license in the fleet. With the LapID Driver app, for example, drivers can carry out driving license checks directly on their smartphone. For EU driving licenses from Germany and Austria, we rely on an AI-supported process that checks the security features of the driving license. Paper driving licenses or foreign driving licenses can be checked in the app with our NFC seal. The seal can also be checked at one of our 1,200 publicly accessible inspection stations. The third option is the LapID Manager app, which supports on-site visual checks.

We also offer various e-learning courses in the areas of occupational health and safety, fleet management and compliance. The standardized modules can also be supplemented with your own content.

With digital appointment and document management for UVV inspections, we make it easier for fleet managers to organize vehicle-related appointments. Inspection reports can be easily uploaded by the driver via smartphone and are stored in the digital vehicle file in a legally secure manner.

How does the LapID driver's license check work?

Once the customer has been created in the LapID system and the first drivers have been registered, the driver’s license check can be activated. Before the check, the driver receives a notification (either by e-mail, SMS or push notification). They can then start the check using the stored method. This is documented in the LapID system once it has been carried out successfully. This gives fleet managers an overview of the current status of driving license checks in the fleet at all times. A new date is automatically set for the next driving license check, depending on the selected interval at which the check is to take place.

If a driver has not carried out their driver’s license check, our escalation process comes into play. Up to three different recipients can be stored here, who are informed about the missing driver’s license check.

The deadline and reminder management as well as the legally compliant documentation are of course also reflected in the instructions and the management of the UVV vehicle inspection.

Once the driver's license has been checked, the information is automatically transferred to Fleet+. Drivers can then view upcoming test dates in the Driver App.

How do the LapID driver's license check and the fleet software Fleet+ from Carano complement each other?

The complexity of tools to be used is constantly increasing for fleet managers. This also increases the administration of various applications and leads to greater effort in fleet management. The interface between the fleet software Fleet+ from Carano and LapID enables seamless synchronization of the systems.
